    Zoom F3 + sennheiser ME66

Greetings! I found that I must turn off the K6 when I use internal batteries in the Zoom F3. I do not believe the recording volume, audio levels, or gain can be adjusted. (If they can be, I've not needed to make adjustments. Instead, I occasionally normalize recordings in Audacity.) -- Rick

    32 bit float recorders

Hi, Jason! I am very happy with the Zoom F3 recorders. They do not have built-in mics, but they are simple to use, small, sturdy, and easy to setup in different hardware configurations. I have two - a handheld setup and a stereo setup that I place and leave for a bit. My walkabout setup is...

Help with odd noise in recordings

Solved! Jon, you were correct. I left my Apple Watch and iPhone in the truck this morning and captured two hours of audio without a single odd noise or interference. Thank you!

    Question about Bird Song Frequencies

While searching for a list of bird song frequencies, I came across this statement: “The Canada Goose has a fairly large vocal range, of 500-850 hz, and there is little discernible difference between the subspecies (Whitford 1998).”...

Help with odd noise in recordings

Thank you, Jon! I had not considered contacting Sennheiser and that's an excellent suggestion. Also, I do wear an Apple Watch and have an iPhone running Merlin Bird ID. I'll turn these off next time. I appreciate your thoughts and suggestions!

Help with odd noise in recordings

I have attached a screen shot of a spectrogram that shows an odd noise that was generated by my equipment. The noise spans all frequencies and must be caused by my mic, cable, or recorder. On different days, I have swapped cables and swapped recorders, so I believe the noise is created by the...

    Birding without a camera, forever?

This is such a helpful conversation! So, after returning to birding recently, and focusing mostly on recording bird sounds, I find that I think about and experience the birds around me very differently than 40 years ago. When I first gave birds attention in my 20s, I quickly found myself...

Should one first normalize the entire soundtrack or clip and normalize individual bird songs?

Thanks, Jon, for describing the tactic and the information about quiet recordings. I have a few!

Thank you, Mono! I appreciate the answer and the explanation.

Should one first normalize the entire soundtrack or clip and normalize individual bird songs?

Greetings, All! I have recently taken up recording the birds in my yard using Merlin Bird ID. I transfer the resulting .wav files to my Mac where I am learning to use OcenAudio. Suppose I have a five-minute soundtrack that contains three or four good bird songs dispersed throughout the...
