    Speculative 10x30/32 question

    If you like the 8x32 ELs I'd hunt down the 10x32 ELs - same size, still a decent FOV and personally I don't find the exit pupil makes them any fiddlier eye placement wise.

    Used they're often under £300 e.g. Sold example but a used MM3 is another good option

    The only sub-£1000 high powered binoculars I've tried have been to my eyes awful. I'd pick up something like the straight ED50 which is pretty decent.

    A Shuttle Shaped Dart, a Treble Lines and something (carpet?) that escaped were all I had, although a Minotaur Beetle was also present for interest.

    Monoculars - anyone use these things ?

    I've been using the early 8x30 Zeiss (West) - late 50s I think and really enjoying it. Bright enough even with early coatings and plenty sharp enough. Only about 3mm eye relief unlike the later B versions... Can easily use and focus one handed.

    I wouldn't go lower than species level in the UK, but most seem to be derived from releases of subspecies P. m. nigriventri and P. m. maculiventris

    Podarcis muralis - there's small populations across the south east.

    Spotter Recommendation

    Optically little to chose between EDII and EDIII but the latter is waterproof so more sought after. The non-ED version is okay, but if you're regularly going above 20/30x magnification I'd definitely go for ED.

    Reliable site for swifts around SE London/Kent?

    A few along the coast at Faversham too. Around Davington Church and the playing field opposite is always pretty good.
