    What does this bushtit have?

They are very meticulous with their nest building. Might just be nest material.

    Another Cooper's vs Sharpie?

This posted oddly. Thanks for the quick replies. I was expecting Cooper's. The two pics at the bottom have a Sharpie head/face to my eye. The pic with the tail spread clearly looks Cooper's. I can't get over the rear view and the continuous dark coloring from top down the back. The pics from the...

    Another Cooper's vs Sharpie?

I noticed this bird while out walking the dog this morning, 2/29, N.W. Washington, State, U.S.A.. It stayed put while I ran back to the car and got the camera, and hung around for a pretty good photo shoot. I was sure it was a Sharpie. It appeared small and just had that look. The first few...

Old D80 new lenses or replace?

The big 3 , Nikon, Cannon, Sony. I won't argue for one or the other. They all have their +-, all are great! He's already a Nikon shooter so a little bit easier to continue in that vein. I'm a Nikon shooter so what I know is Nikon. I've recently invested in a Z8 and Z180-600. I still have my...

Old D80 new lenses or replace?

I wouldn't bother with the D5600. You're on a better course with the D7500. I don't know what the weight difference is but I've never found any of the DSLRs weight to be an issue. The 150-600 may be depending on your physical ability. I'm 68, in pretty good shape, and I have no problem carrying...

Old D80 new lenses or replace?

Hi bdaabat, Your camera is woefully outdated, as you know. The biggest changes/improvements will be in autofocus for birds. With the movement to the newest mirrorless technology, second hand DSLRs are cheap as many are selling and changing over. If you decide to update the body look for a...

    American Black Duck?

I was walking the dog today in a usual place along the water.n There are typically hundreds of American Wigeon here and a few Eurasian mixed in. I snapped a few shots of a long log covered with Wigeon and a few Mallards. I only noticed this bird at home looking at pics on the computer. It looks...

Great Horned Owl threat to big house cats?

This is a definite concern. A friend was attacked in a tree stand after dark. They attack movement. Swooping in and applying those long sharp talons.

    Merlin misled?

I gave Merlin a try last year while in Costa Rica and it failed miserably, with fairly common birds. I won't bother again.

Hybrid Duck? USA Washington State, Three Crabs, Clallam County unknown date

Seems to be less than normal this year in my area, 2 hrs South of this location on Puget Sound. I've only seen a fraction of what I normally see scattered in the hundreds of American Wigeon.

January 1st joint Birdforum list (2024 edition)

Still 3.5 hrs here on the West Coast U.S. Been listening for the local Barred Owls, not yet. I think the barrage of explosions last night affected all the local birds.
