Best bird recorders for field recording

Is not going to work. What you do is connecting the two input stages parallel, in practice this means that you get half the input resistance. It is very likely that you will loose signal from the mic because the mic sees a lower input resistance. With a Zoom F3 the input amplifiers are set to a...

Wildlife Acoustics experiences with their automated recorders

The Tascam recorders are voice activated. I have the Tascam DR-60DmkII, you can set start and stop with four levels. The other models are DR-05X, DR-07X and DR-40X. You can go to the Tascam site and download the manuals in order to see if one of these recorders is what you want.

Need help to upgrade my recording game

Sorry, my native is not English. With your setup you could have all static, with start/stop on level you will have sound or total no files at all. In my view small difference.

Need help to upgrade my recording game

No, that's not the same function if you target the automatic recording within the Tascam DR-60DmkII. I downloaded the manual from the Marantz PMD 661mkIII and all I can read is that it can do something with time. The on and off switching in the Tascam is done with record level, so not time driven.

Need help to upgrade my recording game

Could do what? Your not clear in this. Make it more specific, the starting and stopping is with sound level, not in time or so. I didn't research on this because at the time I bought it I had specific my usage in the canoe in mind. Much later I found out that the feature with automatic starting...

Need help to upgrade my recording game

Sorry for late reaction, did read it but couldn't find the topic, not even with search. The Tascam DR-60DmkII is still available. If you ask me darn cheap. I bought this recorder for a try out in my canoe. So it had to be laid down on the back and with controls and screen on top, with this...

Problem zoom F3, parabola and shotgun mic

The Zoom F3 has two channels, if used for stereo, one channel is left and the other channel is right. So for stereo you have to plug in two connectors. If you think you get stereo with only one channel then your wrong, you get mono.

Problem zoom F3, parabola and shotgun mic

Did you read page 31 of the manual?, may be one channel is set to off. Otherwise if it is still under warranty, send it back for a replacement.

Jon.Bryant : "If anyone with better experience can correct the above info, or add their recommendations it would be good." I did visit the sites from Tentacle and Instamic. Both mono and both uses the mobile phone. Tentacle uses lavalier from any manufacturer, that's nice, but the mobile...

Best bird recorders for field recording

Thanks for the link about power options and the link https://www.sounddevices.com/mixpre-3-mixpre-6-maxbatteryruntime for the Mixpre. The pdf with battery runtime is for the Mixpre mkI and the difference between mkI and mkII is huge, so not "presumably the Mix-Pre and later Mix-Pre II are no...

This is the biggest mistake you can make, fill in the gaps of the manufacturer.

Best bird recorders for field recording

I go by canoe for three to four weeks with all I need, so tent, food, clothing and so on. Having batteries, special those which can be recharged, are sensitive to temperature drop in the night. If I feel that it will be cold I take it with me into the sleeping bag, but I don't have that much...

Best bird recorders for field recording

I don't know where you get that information, visit today the page about Mixpre 3-II and not a word about power consumption, only what you can use to power the recorder. The only wattage on this page is from the net adapter.

You missed the point, you need a computer and a programme before you can do something with your sound. You can still overload your preamps, 32bit float does only say something about the AD converter.
