    Common Greenshank in Veracruz, Mexico ?

    I am convinced, that all Yellowlegs are Greater...especially standing next to the Stilts, their size is that of Greenshank, and the bills are too long and strong for Lesser... I'm especially puzzled by the leg colour on the bird in front ... can Yellowlegs be that dull? Jens

    On 17 March 2022 I visited Playa Juan Angel, just north of Heroica Veracruz on the Gulf coast of Mexico. There were a few waders roosting on a small jetty at the rivermouth - Stilts, Willets and Greater Yellowlegs - and I took a few photographs of the flock before walking further inland...

    Could also be a good time to visit the Gulf coast in Texas, after a cheapish flight to Houston. Warblers on migration as well as waders and lots more …. even on a quiet day with no 'fall'.

    Just had a message back from UIC, and as ovenbird43 stated, you can camp and access the tundra with the 150USD land use permit.

    I agree that the amount of rufous on the rump would suggest female Gorgeted Woodstar, but that would be even more out of place than Santa Marta Woodstar. It could also be the rufous undertail coverts showing above slightly lowered wings, in which case Santa Marta Woodstar is back on...
