Sky Rover Banner Cloud 8x42 APO Review

Waiting a while until they sorted out what the problem is? That's what I'd do anyway. Hermann

Sky Rover Banner Cloud 8x42 APO Review

Difficult question. For a start, I began using quality binoculars some 40 years ago, and I never kept a list. I always check any new binoculars with a flashlight, knowing full well that a small amount of dust is unavoidable and totally harmless. I also never bothered with any small "defects"...

Sky Rover Banner Cloud 8x42 APO Review

Well, using boosters does serve a pupose: It tells you not only how badly many binoculars are actually aligned, no matter who makes them, it can also help you understand why the image of some binocular isn't "quite right". Let me give you an example: A few years ago an old guy I meet quite...

Sky Rover Banner Cloud 8x42 APO Review

Whether those spots affect the image or not doesn't really matter IMO. They should not be there. Especially not in a new pair of binoculars. No way. And the price doesn't come into this at all. NO binocular should have or develop such spots. And, and that's an important point IMO, if a new pair...

Monoculars - anyone use these things ?

Kowa TSN-501/502. Very light, 400 gr, under a pound. Cheap but still pretty good optically. There's an excellent review on the Spotting Scopes forum. Zoom eyepiece, fairly narrow and probably not ideal for glasses wearers. A hiking staff as a monopod ... There used to be trekking poles that...

    Spotter Recommendation

I agree, it's a good price if the scope and the eyepiece are OK (no scratches, no dust/fungus inside, focuser smooth and without play etc.). Check the tripod bush though. It should be a solid steel bush. Hermann

    Spotter Recommendation

The photo shows a Fieldscope III. Not the ED version, the "normal" one. The eyepiece is a 20-60x zoom, looks like the second version. A pretty good scope with a pretty good eyepiece. Waterproof, as opposed to the Fieldscope II (all versions). Optically it's not as good as the ED II or the EDIII...

The APM 6.5x32 ED IF, compared to the APM 6x30 – A Few Thoughts

Probably ... :-) And this problem shows that it's not that easy to make an internal focuser that works reliably. Took Swarovski a few years if I recall the teething troubles of the SV focuser correctly. Hermann

The APM 6.5x32 ED IF, compared to the APM 6x30 – A Few Thoughts

They do come off rather too easily. That's why I put some tape around them. Works rather well if you use a decent tape ("Tesa Gewebeband" in my case.) I did the same with the APM 6x30. Hermann

The APM 6.5x32 ED IF, compared to the APM 6x30 – A Few Thoughts

I like it when you're being pedantic ... I can happily live with a 6.7x31. As to the close focus - well, I hope the CF version (APM says it should arrive at the end of May) will have somewhat closer focus. I'd be OK with something like 3-3.5m myself for my style of birding, but then I...

    ED50 recommendation

Or from some German suppliers, including Amazon. And the DS version is perfect for people wearing glasses. Better than the MC version. Hermann
