Can you help me identify this bird please

The bird is at an angle, almost facing you. It really is a song thrush.

    Twitching Wexford Cayenne Tern

Hi Paul; the Irish rare and scarce whatsapp group has been swamped with this already and it is not a good place to discuss it. That group sends a phone bleep to hundreds of people, with every text and it is hard to manage. Such discussions are better suited to newsgroups (forums/fora) where...

RFI watching roseate terns in Ireland

p.s. they used to breed on Maiden Rock which is very easy to see by scope from the shore but there were none last year and I think none the year before that. Is is best viewed from Coliemore Harbour, south of Dublin near Dalkey but they may have gone from that site.

RFI watching roseate terns in Ireland

What Aidan says makes it sound like you have a good chance at Skerries at the end of June. They nest 7km off shore from there and Skerries is a small detour off the Dublin-Belfast road. Lady's Island: you can see the lake with 2 small islands and a narrow peninsula at the north end. The terns...

RFI watching roseate terns in Ireland

The biggest Roseate tern colony (in Europe) is on Rockabill Island http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockabill . This is completely inaccessible and you are not allowed land but it is only a few km off the coast. The nearest land is the coastal town of Skerries which is only about 7-10km off the...

Am I right in guessing this is an escapee? I think I remember seeing one in England on the Thames so they seem to be around (feral or widely kept in parks?).

Hi Tom: the hide is at the mouth of eh Fane River, just south of Blackrock, as you say. It is on a short road off the old Dublin road (R132 or Castlebellingham Road), about 5km south of Dundalk. It is just beside where the coast road that goes around Blackrock (R172) joins the Dublin Road...

    Cape Clear bird observatory

I just spent the week there. It does not have a warden but it is still running. You cannot turn up and get a key unless you pre-book. The people you get a key off have a list of who is booked in. It is sad not to have Steve and Mary there after all these years but it is still running.
