    Spotted Flycatcher ?

Hello, its a Phylloscopus Warbler. Please note pale, not black bill and coloured legs. Appearantly pale legs, largely pale bill (not black) and long pp and face expression makes this a Willow Warbler.

Gull ID, Rutland Water Nature Reserve - 30/05/2024

Hello Benji, do you have more pictures? Anyway, my thoughts from left to right: 3cy LBBG by rounded head and weak bill adult LBBG by rounded head and despite worn primaries I would expect larger white spots in the wingtip in GBBG 2cy GBBG by predominantly white greater coverts and narrow, but...

    pipit - but which one?

Hello Michal, do you have more pictures? With its four primaries sticking out, it gives a pipit/lark vibe for me too. Proportions and jizz looks good for Meadow/Tree Pipit ( is a Water Pipit possible? *) and not so good for Tawny Pipit (with the dainty, chiffchaff like proportions, skipping...

Thekla's or Crested Lark, 29.05.23, Málaga province (Spain)

Hello Paul, I hope this is understandable (if not non-native speaker the excuse) and helpful: according to literature, both species are divided into several subspecies and/or species. They differ in ID features and one feature that works in one area doesnt apply for other ssp/species (because...

    Milwaukee, WI, USA bird ID

Hello, That's a juvenile Starling. Bill is still growing, therefore a little bit stubby and with a blunt tip ( they get a longer spikes bill when fully grown), but everything else is good for this species, including the triangular black loral patch, whitish chin on a quite uniform brownish bird...

Warbler: Phylloscopus or Hippolais? Ibiza - Spain

Hello, thanks for correction! yes I was biased by location? PP is quite long indeed, and the tail proportions are better for Icterine too (against what I wrote earlier, biased?) I have posted this here before?Orpheusspötter und Gelbspötter excellent blog by Johannes Honold and Ralph Martin

    Lesser black-backed gull?

Hello, yes agree with you Michal: can a 2cy "Caspian Gull" with such uniform dark axillaries, broad blackish tailband (nearly covering the entire tail, many 2cy Gulls in NE-Germany have a narrower, more "tailbandish" one)) and large, "heart-barred" shaped dark centers to the scapulars still...

    Song thrush's call?

Hello, once more the usual caveats: Song Thrush can have a similar call and on my device the call seems thin and fluent, not sharp and exploding enough. Therefore favouring Song Thrush Please compare XC882390 Song Thrush (Turdus philomelos) and I am still searching for answers. Thanks!

Various at Eyebrook Res, South Leicestershire, UK

Hello again, the Plover is really difficult for me. Do you have more pictures? Most adult Little Ringed Plovers have a bold yellow eye-ring, but a very few have a much weaker one. And I think I can just make this out, just within varation. Regarding the shape of the black mask: Your bird is...
