Visual effects in binoculars when used with polarisers

The water reflections are partially polarised, sometimes it can be 100% polarised. Maybe when you rotate the binos, the prisms change the polarization.

    Monarch M7 8x42 problem

It doesn't really bother me when I watch a bird. I only notice it when reading text. Besides, it is hard to get the precise ipd setting, once set I never want to touch it again.

Comparing 10x32 NL with 8x42 NL, some (not ground breaking) thoughts...

Okay, I think I now understand what you are saying. In another example, 8x42 vs 10x42, if our pupils are 2.5mm, the 10x bino would squeeze the light a bit more so it doesn't matter if both binos collect the same amount of light, with the 10x, a greater percetage of this light actually goes to...

    Monarch M7 8x42 problem

But the problem happens whenever you use both eyes right? I got a kind of similar situation with my Monarch HG 10x42. Whenever I look at something close like a few meters, it looks very good. However if I look at text at the same distance, it looks a bit blurry. When looking through each tube...

    Vignetting in Binoculars

Interesting discussion. Are we talking about a vignetting of the edges when looking at the center of the FOV, that we cannot detect? Or when we roll our eyeballs and look at the edges, or both? I assume this vignetting would only happen in dim lighting, otherwise in bright light our pupils would...

52mm NL Pure release date estimate?

The wx's afov is considerable larger than the ISO calculated value of 76 degrees. The actual value was measured around 85 degrees, there is a recent thread about this discrepancy on cloudy nights.

    Speculative 10x30/32 question

That depends on the user, you also pay way less for 90% of the performance of an alpha. Some people are willing to pay 3x extra for that 5-10% difference. I remember another thread where you praised the subalphas like Trac Torics, according to you, why would someone spend $3000 for an alpha when...

Nikon EII general question- Zeiss or B&L framed bino?

Very nice, do you have more of these xray images posted somewhere? I am curious to see other bino designs, it should be easier to do xray images rather than make binocular cutaways.

Product Review: The Sky Rover Banner Cloud 8 x 42 Binocular

Nice review, I am always looking forward to your impressions and own measurements of these instruments. May I ask how you measure the apparent FOV? I thought of a couple of methods to do this at home, but I feel like it is harder to measure than the TFOV, I wonder if there is a simpler approach.

Swarovski NL 8x42 vs Skyrover apo 8x42 sharpness contrast microcontrast etc

At the same time here there are many that see an "obvious" difference between the ~1000$ class and ~3000. I even read from someone here that the SFL is a clear "step up" from a CHD or MHG. The expression that I used "to crush" is a bit exaggerated, but for people that value wide AFOV and edge...

Swarovski NL 8x42 vs Skyrover apo 8x42 sharpness contrast microcontrast etc

Whether the SRBC is in fact at the same level as the NL Pure or Zeiss SF in terms of pure optical performance seems to be a controversial topic in this forum. Can we then safely say it crushes the subalphas such as the MHG, Conquest, SFL, etc?

Swarovski NL 8x42 vs Skyrover apo 8x42 sharpness contrast microcontrast etc

We can argue non stop about if we perceive that bino A is sharper than bino B, or which has the best contrast/micro contrast/macro contrast, etc. There are so many threads about this in the forum, comparing all possible combinations of pairs of binoculars. I think that if we start measuring...

EII - Increased Brightness following on from 100th Anniversary Edition

That's good. Would you say that you also had the old EII (long before the Anniversary edition) that have an "obvious" red tint according to some in the forum? To be fair, I don't really notice differences in brightness, but I think I would be able to notice differences in color tint, and...

EII - Increased Brightness following on from 100th Anniversary Edition

I don't understand. Mine has the serial number 822... but it has green reflections on the objectives when the light is reflected perpendicular to the glass, it does become purple when you look at it at an angle. The ocular lenses have different tones of olive green reflections when the light...

    Nikon HG 8x30 dissection

I already tried "harder" like you say and put them under the tap. First thing I noticed was that some oil/grease was washing away, there was a thin layer of oil deposited on the lens after that. But I got the impression that the dust got stuck in the grease/oil, I tried harder, several times...
