Skylark

In all of his beauty. The name Skylark thought to be derived from Northern English via Old Norse. Lark ultimately meaning: "to play". 'Larking about' as a term for 'playing games' is still used in Northern England.

Aye, beauty birds Keith. When I was growing up during the '80s, I could step out of my front door, walk 3 miles to the local reservoir and the fields and trees would be filled with skylarks and yellowhammers pretty much all along the walk. These days, you'd be lucky to see the odd one or two along that stretch. Skylarks still do well along the coast 'round here but as you say, it's not what it was.
