Skylark

One of the most beautiful birds renowned for its display flight and song. The Skylark has been afforded a lot of attention through the centuries: it is estimated that more poems have been written about the Skylark’s song than that of any other bird, it has long been regarded as a delicacy on the plate and the Victorians liked to keep male larks as songbirds with a good singer fetching as much as 15 shillings.

A wonderful closeup of this Skylark--great composition, subject placement and setting! I can't wait to hear them sing again this spring. Thanks for the fun facts!

They're already in top form here singing wise. I think you're Polish? Every time I post a picture anywhere I find a fact about that bird, it's just my way of building a bit more knowledge of birds more than anything. So when I was reading about the Skylark last night, it turns out that Poland has more skylarks than anywhere else in the world, apparently in the region of 5 to 9 million pairs (you'll probably know this) versus the approx. 1 million pairs in Britain; and Poland is about 1.3 times bigger than the UK geographically. That's a lot more Skylarks to watch!

They say that, at some point in the summer, there are more Skylarks than people in Poland--that's what I've heard.
