Iraqi Babbler

Iraqi Babbler (Argya altirostris)

The Iraqi Babbler differs from the overlapping Common Babbler by having less streaking underneath and a more chest-nutty color to the breast. The ones I saw seemed to be a bit less long than the Common Babblers. In December 2005 when I saw this bird it was said to be endemic to Iraq.
Location
I saw them on "Camp Victory" the coalition base near the Baghdad Airport. The area was formerly a Sadam Hussain compound with artificial waterways and ponds. It was irrigated and there was ample scrub and trees.
Date taken
December 2005
Scientific name
Argya altirostris
Equipment used
Unrecalled point and shoot digital camera.

Good for you Joe! A seldom seen species here in the Gallery and you got one :)
I tried to upload this image back in 2005 when I was still in Iraq but there was some sort of technical issue back then. I did attach the image to the "vacational" trip report at the time. Anyway, if I have a worthwhile photo I'll try and post them now that I can. Thanks!
